Macbeth Perspectives
Perspectives
This Editorial Project was for me to disrupt the text using visual or editorial-based techniques to create a brand-new perspective of the selected text. I had chosen Macbeth as it was always a favourite piece of literature growing up, the tales and stories of betrayal, grief and falling into insanity through a medieval setting were always intriguing.
Through my research, I found inspiration through the artist, Tom Phillips who creates/hand paints amazing imagery on top of pages as part of a 52-year project. He would do this whilst leaving small words/sentences that relate to the imagery. This way of disrupting the text became my main source of ideas and experimentation. Soon afterwards, I would decide on 3 main themes of perspectives which were Trump, COVID & hallucinations as all 3 had similar themes of Power, Fear & Guilt which Macbeth always thrived on displaying through its words.
Through a small 20 pages, I used the Act II Scene 1 section of Macbeth, where he is about to kill King Duncan while he sleeps. He begins to hallucinate his Dagger taking him towards his Chamber. Each perspective looks at the 3 themes and displays visuals that matched.
